Crawfordsville Community School Corporation

Where Character Counts

CCSC Technology

  • Philosophy:
At Crawfordsville Community School Corporation, we believe that technology must be focused and consistent between grade levels. While the tech department listens to our staff, students, and community in selecting new technologies, our tech purchases are well planned and plotted to last. We do not simply purchase items to have new tech, we purchase tech to fill needs. Much of our technology purchases are building and user driven after collaboration between tech staff, building staff, and administration.

    Vision:
The Crawfordsville Community School Corporation technology department is dedicated to our staff and students in creating, supporting, and maintaining a 21st century learning environment.

    Network:
Our current network infrastructure consists of redundant fiber connections between all buildings incorporating 10Gb connectivity throughout the corporation. All corporation buildings have controller based Wi-Fi connectivity with plans to upgrade to 802.11ac in the near future. We provide staff and students with BYOD access; however, guest access is limited to special events upon request. Our Internet access capacity is 200 Mbps and all CCSC internet content is filtered and monitored.

    Devices:
We purchase and maintain various devices for students in our corporation. Our goal is to refresh student technology about every 5 years per building, or when it is determined that the life span of devices are at an end. It is not uncommon for devices to last beyond 5 years in some cases. Devices are broken down according to buildings below.

CHS: Dell Optiplex desktops and Latitude laptops / traditional computer labs and laptop carts throughout the building / BYOD

CMS: Dell Latitude laptops / laptop carts throughout the building / BYOD

Hoover: Dell Latitude laptops / laptop carts throughout the building / Dell Optiplex traditional lab (2) / BYOD

Nicholson: Dell Latitude laptops / plans to upgrade laptops summer of 2017 / Dell Optiplex lab

Hose: iPad Tubs (K) / Dell Latitude Laptops / Dell Optiplex lab

    Software:
We are a Microsoft campus and shop across the board. We offer students and staff Office365 that they can download and install on up to 5 devices for free. We use software such as BrainPop, IXL, ALEKS, Compass Learning, and Achieve 3000 as well as others to supplement and support instruction and learning. We have adopted Canvas as our LMS and are using it in grades 6-12, while PowerSchool continues to remain our SIS.

    New Projects and Upgrades:
Our last main upgrade happened in a couple of stages over last summer and are still being finished up. We are currently upgrading major networking components to incorporate 10 Gb connectivity throughout the corporation. Hose and Nicholson recieved new classroom technology including new Epson BrightLink 595WI interactive projectors. Hoover recieved and is integrating new student laptops while Hoover staff devices are also slated to be refreshed. CHS received new desktops for the PLTW (Project Lead The Way) program, and is recieveing new latitude laptops to help with the Canvas rollout.  The summer of 2017 will include projects to refresh Nicholson's laptops, CHS projectors, and Hoover staff machines.
